Truck drivers and shoulder injuries

Truck driving is a difficult job on a person physically. The physical strains on the job can be unexpected yet extremely painful. These injuries can put a person out of work for months or even permanently. Truck drivers who have suffered injuries on the job are eligible for workers compensation.

Truck drivers can suffer many types of injuries on the job but one of the more common injuries is a shoulder injury. These injuries are often very painful and prevent the driver from working. Many of these injuries are caused by the fifth wheel pin. This is when the driver takes the trailer off the tractor by lying underneath the trailer on top of the wheel and pulling up on the pin. The pin is often difficult to remove and the strain of removing it can result in rotator cuff or shoulder injury.

Truck drivers also frequently lift the engine hood which is heavy and high off the ground. Also, getting in and out of the cab can put strain on the shoulder by reaching up and pulling themselves into the cab or slipping and breaking a fall by reaching for the handle. Loading and unloading cargo is also a point when injuries are possible. Cargo often takes hours to unload and can involve pulling, pushing and lifting.

If a truck driver is suffering from shoulder injuries, or other pain they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in workers' compensation. Truck drivers who are injured on the job are entitled to workers compensation benefits. These include payment for medical expenses and missed work. An attorney can help these drivers obtain the benefits they deserve. They can also help them if there is a permanent disability discovered.
