Boating accident leaves one girl hurt and driver behind bars

Although people in other parts of the country might not think of Nebraska as a great state for outdoor activities, residents of Lincoln and other parts of Nebraska recognize that this state in fact has many lakes and other recreational areas that are wonderful for boating, water-skiing and other fun activities, particularly during the warm summer months.

However, boaters need to keep in mind that they have an ongoing obligation to be careful while enjoying Nebraska's waterways. Otherwise, an accident much like the one which happened in the western part of the state recently can be the result.

Recently, a 9-year-old girl sadly suffered catastrophic injuries in a boating accident. The driver of the boat, who was hauling the 9-year-old and another child, made a very sharp turn in his boat. The sharp turn threw both girls from whatever inner tube or float they were using and onto some rocks nearby. While the other girl suffered only minor injuries, the 9-year-old was not so lucky.

The 9-year-old had to be transported across the state to Omaha, after a stop at two other hospitals, for further treatment. Meanwhile, the man who was operating the boat has been accused of being under the influence of alcohol. He has also been arrested for child abuse, although there is no indication that prosecutor has filed formal charges.

While boating in Nebraska is a lot of fun, it can also be very dangerous, and people who operate boats need to take care that their passengers and all those using the water are safe. When they do not meet this responsibility, those injured can file a personal injury cause of action to recover compensation.
